Dreamcatcher Quilt - "Catching Dreams" by Kerry Coppin

This quilt was made for a friend of ours for her 16th birthday.  I knew she loves dreamcatchers and wanted to make a quilt featuring this in some way.  I came up with the idea of using a dresden block and attaching some feathers.  I was surprised however, the more I searched for inspiration, that I just couldn't find anything to give me any ideas.  There was just none made using a dresden.

This is what I came up with.  I am really happy how it turned out.

The fabric for the dresdens is a jelly roll called pb&j by Moda.

The quilt was quilted by Katy Law of Nutmeg Quilting.

Pemberley Quilt update - October 2014

I've been working really hard on my Pemberley Quilt over the last few weeks.  I just added the blue border on this morning.  Those 68 Hexagons took a while!  I'm really happy with how it's looking.

Pemberley Quilt - August 2014 - Part 2

For the August class, we continued working our the centre oval block.  The binding has been attached to the oval, and the scallops and vines have been attached to the background block.

I'm very happy with how it is looking so far.  :)  I am now working on the flowers and leaves to go on the vines surrounding the oval centre.

That's it for now.

Pemberley Quilt - August 2014 - Part 1

Last month, July, I started a quilt class with the wonderful Katrina Hadjimichael.  This is the first time I have attempted a quilt in class so it is quite a challenge, but I am enjoying it very much.

This is Katrina's wonderful "Pemberley" quilt.

It is just gorgeous.  the link to her blog is on my page.

I decided to go with an Autumn theme, and was very excited picking out my colours.  After the first class this is what i have, with my planned border fabric next to it.

The classes are once per month, so during this month I worked on the centre oval.  Here it is

I then worked on the 4 corner blocks, ready for the August class to begin

Antique Sampler update

I have joined my antique sampler together and I have sewn all the scallops  for around the edge together.  Just need to attach them to the border.

I started a new quilt class in August with the wonderful Katrina Hadjimichael, to make a quilt called Pemberley.  This has slowed my progress with my Antique Sampler, but I'm trying to do a little here and there, but I probably won't be able to finish it completely until the Pemberley classes finish in December.

This is my last photo of my Antique Sampler.  The middle is sewn together, but the scallops around the edge and the border fabric is just sitting there.  Couldn't resist seeing what it will look like. :)  I am very happy with the result considering it's my first attempt at hand appliqué and my first quilt with english paper piecing also.

Design Wall and Sewing room update

I had this big blank wall in my new sewing room. I had thought of putting a peg board up, but decided to make myself a design wall to view my quilt blocks from the right angles.

I purchased 2 Acoustic Pinboards from Bunnings, because they are so lightweight.

I then simply covered them with white flannel, and attached to the wall with 3M picture hanging strips so I can move them if needed.

I am so happy with how it turned out.  helps me keep track of where I'm up to, and keeps my blocks safe.

I also changed my sewing room a little.  I was finding my cutting table wonderful, but missing a spot to sit down.

So I removed one of the 2x4 expedit cupboards and replaced it with a 2x2 expedite cupboard, giving me space to add a chair.  And I just added a table leg on that corner.

With the extra 2x4 cupboard, I put it behind my machine.  It is wonderful there, and really finishes the room off.  I'm very happy.
